MY PERSONAL TOP 10 ALL TIME HIP HOP ALBUMS

I DECIDED TO SHARE WITH Y'ALL MY PERSONAL TOP 10 ALL TIME HIP HOP ALBUMS.  I WILL HAVE TO SAY I GOT INTO HIP HOP REAL HEAVY STARTING LIKE '92,  I MEAN I ALWAYS LIKED HIP HOP,  MY OLDER BROTHER USED TO BLAST KURTIS BLOW, BUSY BEE,  RAKIM, AND BIG DADDY KANE.  I USED TO ALWAYS TELL HIM "AYO I WANT HEAR SOME RAKIM"  RAKIM WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MC'S BACK IN LIKE '88-'90.  WHEN I GOT MY FIRST SUMMER JOB LIKE '92 I WAS ABLE TO BUY HIP HOP ALBUMS FROM ARTIST I LIKE INSTEAD OF WAITING TO SEE WHAT NEW ALBUM MY BROTHER WAS GOING TO BRING HOME.  I REMEMBER THAT '92 SUMMER ONE OF MY HOMIES BROUGHT REDMAN'S DEBUT ALBUM "WHAT THEE ALBUM" AND WE WOULD LISTEN TO IT OVER AND OVER.  REDMAN'S SONG "TIME FOR SOME ACTION" DID IT AND "TONIGHT'S DA NIGHT" I MEAN REDMAN HAD THE FLOW WITH CRAZY METAPHORS AND ILL STORIES WITH HUMOR.  MY LIST IS NOT IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER, THIS JUST MY TOP 10 PERSONAL FAVORITES.

THE GROUP BLACKMOON'S DEBUT ALBUM "ENTA DA STAGE" CAME OUT LIKE '93 I THINK,  I PLAYED THIS ALBUM SO MUCH THE TAPE POPPED.  I REMEMBER WANTING THIS ALBUM SO BAD WHEN IT CAME OUT I DIDN'T HAVE MONEY SO I WENT TO THE MALL AND STOLE IT,  I MEAN I'M NOT PROUD OF THAT BUT HEY IT WAS WORTH IT.  I MEAN THIS ALBUM WAS HARD HIP HOP WITH HEAVY BASS FILLED BEATS WITH BUCKSHOT AND 5' FT SPITTING ILL LYRICS.  STANDOUT SONGS "HOW MANY MCS", "WHO GOT THE PROPS","BUCK 'EM DOWN", "I GOT CHA OPIN".

WHEN I HEARD NAS DEBUT ALBUM ILLMATIC I WENT CRAZY,  I INSTANTLY WANTED TO RAP,  I WAS WRITING RHYMES SOUNDING JUST LIKE NAS.  ILLMATIC WAS AN CLASSIC FROM THE FIRST TIME I WAS DONE LISTENING TO IT.  I WOULD LISTEN TO THE ALBUM AND GET MAD IT WAS SO SHORT 10 SONGS, BUT REALLY 9 TRUE SONGS.  NAS LYRICS WERE CRAZY ILL!!! LYRICS LIKE: MY RHYMING IS A VITAMIN HELD WITHOUT A CAPSULE.  NAS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE RAPPER EVER!!  I DON'T NEED TO NAME THE STANDOUT SONGS ON THIS CAUSE THE WHOLE ALBUM IS A CLASSIC.

ALL MAN WHEN WU-TANG ALBUM 36 CHAMBERS DROPPED I WAS AMAZED BY HOW A 9 MAN GROUP WOULD BE ABLE TO BE SO GOOD TOGETHER. THE ALBUM HAD 12 TRACKS AND THEY ALL WERE JUST THAT GOOD.  THE RZA IS A MASTER ON THE BEATS,  HIS BEATS WERE SO DIFFERENT FOR WHEN THIS ALBUM DROPPED.  AROUND THIS TIME THE WEST COAST WAS CRUSHING THE HIP HOP SCENE, THE CHRONIC HAD DROPPED AND SNOOP WAS KILLING IT THEN WU-TANG CAME ON THE SCENE.  THEY WERE ALL DIFFERENT AND CREATIVE AND HOT TOO.  I WOULD GET HOME FROM SCHOOL AND BLAST THIS ALBUM IN MY ROOM UNTIL MY MOM CAME HOME.  I CAN STILL LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM LIKE ITS STILL NEW.  THEY MADE A TIMELESS ALBUM.

THE INFAMOUS ALBUM BY MOBB DEEP CAME OUT IN SPRING OF '95 AND WHEN I LISTENED TO THAT ALBUM WITH THOSE DARK VIVID STREET TALES, IT FELT LIKE THEY WERE DESCRIBING MY HOOD.  ME AND MY HOMIE WOULD LISTEN TO MOBB DEEP EVERYDAY.  I REMEMBER FIRST BUYING IT AS A BOOTLEG THEN LATER BUYING IT LIKE SEVERAL TIMES CAUSE FOR SOME REASON I KEPT LOOSING IT OR PEOPLE WERE STEALING IT FROM ME.  THE SONG "SHOOK ONES" CAN STILL GIVE ME THE CHILLS WHEN I HEAR IT,  PRODIGY PROBABLY SPIT HIS ILLEST BARS IN THAT VERSE ON THERE, HE SAID : ROCK U IN YA FACE, STAB U IN YA BRAIN WIT YA NOSE BONE, U ALL ALONE IN THESE STREETS COUSIN, EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF, IN THESE STREETS WE BE GUNNING N KEEP THESE SHOOK CREWS RUNNING.  ANOTHER ALBUM I CAN LET IT PLAY ALL THE WAY THRU.

THE SUMMER OF '95 WENT CRAZY WHEN WU-TANG'S RAEKWON RELEASED HIS DEBUT ALBUM "ONLY BUILT 4 CUBAN LINX".  I MEAN BACK THEN EVERYBODY IN MY HOOD WAS RIDING AROUND BLASTING THIS ALBUM.  THE BEATS WERE SICK, THE RZA REALLY OUT DID HIMSELF WITH THE PRODUCTION ON THAT ALBUM.  SONGS LIKE "CRIMINOLOGY", "INCARCERATED  SCARFACES", "VERBAL INTERCOURSE", "ICE CREAM", "GLACIERS OF ICE", "KNOWLEDGE GODS" ALL CLASSIC SHIT.  ALSO, I FORGOT TO MENTION GHOSTFACE WAS THE CO-STAR OF THE ALBUM.  I THINK THIS WILL ALWAYS BE A HOOD CLASSIC.  AND I KNOW Y'ALL REMEMBER IT CAME OUT IN A PURPLE TAPE CASSETTE.

I WASN'T A STREET HUSTLER BUT I HUNG OUT WIT ENOUGH OF THEM TO KNOW THE GAME,  I'M SAYING THIS CAUSE WHEN JAY-Z DROPPED HIS DEBUT ALBUM IT WAS LIKE A HUSTLER'S BLUEPRINT FOR HUSTLING.  THE ALBUM "REASONABLE DOUBT" IS ANOTHER TIMELESS CLASSIC.  JAY-Z'S  FLOW WAS DIFFERENT, HIS METAPHORS WERE SO REAL LIFE AND ILL.  WHEN I FIRST HEARD "CAN I LIVE" I WAS LIKE DAMN THIS DUDE IS ILL AND SMART AND WITTY WITH HIS FLOW.  I CAN LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM TODAY AND NOD MY HEAD, I THINK THIS JAY-Z'S BEST ALBUM.  I WOULD LISTEN TO THIS WITH THE HUSTLERS I KNEW AND THEY WOULD BE SNAPPING SCREAMING HIS LYRICS WORD FOR WORD.

THE FIRST TIME I HEARD BLACK STAR, I HEARD THEIR SONG "DEFINITION" I WAS LIKE WHOA!!! TO PEOPLE WHO MAY NOT KNOW THE GROUP BLACK STAR CONSIST OF MOS DEF AND TALIB KWELI.  I GOTTA SAY THEY ARE THE MOST TALENTED DUO EVER IN HIP HOP TO ME.  THEY GOT TWO DIFFERENT FLOWS THAT COMPLIMENT THEIR STYLES.  SONGS LIKE "K.O.S." "RESPIRATION" 'BROWN SKIN" WERE SO REFRESHING.  TO HEAR 2 ILL MCS SPITTING ALL THIS KNOWLEDGE WAS GOOD FEELING AND A CHANGE OF PACE FOR WHEN THIS ALBUM CAME OUT, I THINK IT WAS SOME TIME IN '98.  I STILL BANG THIS ALBUM FROM START TO FINISH, ITS A CLASSIC.

WHEN I HEARD SNOOP ON THE CHRONIC ALBUM I KNEW HE WAS A STAR.  SNOOP DEBUT ALBUM "DOGGSTYLE" WAS AN INSTANT CLASSIC WITH SONGS LIKE "GIN AND JUICE" "WHAT'S MY NAME".  I MEAN EVEN THE ARTWORK AND INSIDE COVER WAS CLASSIC AND CREATIVE.  AND WITH DR DRE MAKING THE BEATS IT WAS JUST A MUST HAVE ALBUM,  IT WAS CRAZY TO SEE HOW MUCH INFLUENCE SNOOP HAD ON THE PEOPLE IN MY HOOD.  THEY STARTED DRESSING LIKE THEY WERE FROM CALI.  YEAH BUT I DEFINITELY WAS BLASTING THIS ALBUM EVERYDAY.  AND YOU CANT FORGET ABOUT THE FUNNY SKITS, OVERALL JUST GOOD HIP HOP.

ONCE I HEARD CAPONE N NOREAGA'S SONG "T.O.N.Y." I SAID DAMN I'M FEELING THESE GRIMY QUEENS RAPPERS.  I BROUGHT THE ALBUM AND I IMPRESSED WITH THEIR PRODUCTION CAUSE AT THIS TIME THIS GROUP WAS KINDA UNDERGROUND.  THE BEATS WERE CRAZY, NOREAGA LYRICS WERE NOT THE GREATEST BUT HE WASN'T BORING,  CAPONE WAS THE LYRICALLY ONE WITH A ODD VOCAL TONE.  BY THE TIME THE ALBUM WAS RELEASED CAPONE WAS SENT TO PRISON AND NOREAGA HAD TO HOLD DOWN THE BULK OF THE ALBUM WITH ASSISTANCE FROM RAPPER TRAGEDY KADAHFI.  THEY HAD SOME HARD ASS SONGS LIKE "HALFWAY THUGS", "DRIVER'S SEAT", "LA LA", "PAROLE VIOLATORS", "BLOOD MONEY" THEY HAD CRAZY THUG ANTHEMS!!!

HONORABLE MENTION:  THE ROOTS "ILLADEL HALFLIFE", NAS "IT WAS WRITTEN", TUPAC "ALL EYEZ ON ME", AZ "DOE OR DIE", REDMAN "MUDDY WATERS" A TRIBE CALLED QUEST "MIDNIGHT MARAUDERS"
